Chapter Seventeen
Cry on the Couch 'til the Poets Come to Life.
Alexis' POV
I could feel that heart-wrenching feeling again. That heart aching feeling that you get when you just find out someone has died. "What?" I asked, not believing what Patrick had just said. "Marissa is dead, Alexis. She's gone babe," Patrick replied. No, no that can't be. My heart knew it was true but my mind denied every word. Slow hot tears began to run over my pale cheeks and Patrick came to my side. "Shh, shh," he whispered, laying his head next to mine. I sobbed louder and louder until I screamed into the air. "WHY DID SHE DO THIS TO ME? WHY? WHY? SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT UNDERSTOOD!" I screamed. The room began to blur and I fell back onto the sheets of the hospital bed.
Patrick's POV
Alexis' head fell back against the hospital bed sheets. I didn't know what to do, if this was simply just too much for her or if she was in real danger. The monitor beeped and her heart rate was decreasing, fast. I ran out of the door and grabbed the nearest doctor I saw. "Please, you have to help her, her-her heart rate is decreasing quickly," I gasped. The doctor ran into the room with me. All I heard was the long, never-ending beep of the heart monitor. I looked up and it was flat-lining. "We've got to get her into the emergency room, quickly!" the doctor yelled. He ran out the door and I rushed over to Alexis. "Oh, God. What have I done? I'm so sorry, please. Please don't go now, I need you," I whispered into her ear. I stroked her hair and kissed her on the lips. She felt as cold as ice and the monitor was still flat-lining. "Sir, move now," said a nurse who was transferring her onto another stretcher. I moved and watched her seemingly lifeless, perfect body go flying out the door. I went after the party of doctors and nurse into the emergency room. "Sir, you are going to have to leave," said the nurse again. "I won't cause any trouble," I said, hoping to stay here with Alexis.
"Sir, please leave now," the nurse said forcing me out of the door. I caught a glimpse of her gown being torn in two and doctors rushing to save her life. I walked to the room that Marissa's body was in and opened the door. The two girls were crying and Spencer just stood there in shock. Ryan and Brendon tried to comfort him, placing their arms around him and patting up and down. Pete looked at her lifeless body and just cried. Jon stood by Pete, in utter disbelief, with the reddish-brown haired girl clutching him and sobbing. I have never seen Pete cry before...What the f**k am I thinking, Alexis! "Guys, oh my God, she's-she's dieing!" I cried. "Who is dieing?" Brendon asked, not believing me, just like Alexis. "ALEXIS IS DIEING! And it's all my fucking fault! Goddammit why'd I have to tell her about Marissa?" I replied. "Oh God, where is she now?" one of the girls asked. "She's in the ER, but no one can see her," I said to the girl as she rushed to the door. "I'm going to see her, dammit! I don't give a f**k what they say to me!" she screamed. "Avery! Wait!" Jon cried after the girl. Avery. So that's her name. Goddamn, why do I keep switching subjects? Is it all I am good for? Alexis is dieing and all I can think about is some girl's name! Pete grabbed me by the arm and we ran out of the dreary room. "Pete we can't-" I started to say. "I know, but we will," Pete said as we ran down the endless hallway of doors and white walls.
