the carpal tunnel of love [chapter three]

(Chapter Three)

I looked at my watch and it read "6:54". 'Oh my gawd, I was supposed to be by the stage 10 minutes ago!' I grabbed my bass and quickly ran over to my band."Lexi? LEXI! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??" yelled a rather agitated Avery. "Um sorry, I was...um...helping Brendon with his make-up," I said. Avery gave me a "uh-huh 'make-up' look". "I did! And then he...left," I replied, blushing. "Sure. Well tell B-Bear he needs to hurry up with 'make-up' next time," Avery yelled to me as she walked over to her drum set. I smiled at her and hooked up my bass to the amp. I played a couple of notes to see if it was working and people started screaming in delight. Marissa and Sam were already on stage and warmed up.

Thats when I heard hundreds of girls in the small audience of the Hard Rock start screaming. Brendon had just walked on stage with a mic. "Hello everyone!" he shouted into the microphone. There was a giant scream that responded from the audience, which Brendon seemed to enjoy because he started to smile. "Tonight, we have a special opening band; We just met them today! They will rock you out of your minds, and rock your own fantasies. I give you the luscious ladies of 'Matchstick Romancers'!" Brendon said as he handed the mic to Sam.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we will be playing some covers tonight for your listening pleasure and we start out with the Goo Goo Dolls' 'Slide'!" Sam announced to the audience. Marissa started playing the opening notes and Sam began to sing. I glanced over to my right and Brendon was standing on the side stage, grinning as big as possible; the Goo Goo Dolls were one of his favorite bands. As the song ended, Brendon came back on stage. I opened my mouth to speak to him when he said into my mic, "Well, I think they did a very good first song, no?" The fans in the audience cheered and clapped for us. I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks as they cheered. "Brendon!" shouted Sam into her mic. "Why yes, my good lady," Brendon playfully replied. "Why don't we do a duet of 'Hit me baby, one more time?' Come on, you know you want to," Sam said looking rather flirty towards Brendon. "Sure, why not?" Brendon said walking over to Sam. It was then I had mental image of bashing her head into the ground with my bass but it was quickly erased as I had just heard an ear-splitting scream come from Sam and a dull thud to the floor...
