Chapter Sixteen
We Shake the Hips in Relationships
Alexis' POV
My eyes slowly opened to Patrick silently stroking my hair. "Hello there, sleeping beauty," he said, planting a kiss on my cheek. The sunshine came through the windows of the small room and I could see the tired bags under Patrick's eyes. "How much sleep have you gotten?" I asked. "I got enough," Patrick replied, putting his glasses back on in an attempt to hide the bags. "Okay. Well I'm hungry," I said, rubbing my stomach. "Well I could get you something to eat or you could have some of this lovely hospital food," Patrick said, snickering and handing me the menu. I made a face at the selections on the menu and Patrick grinned at me. "Thought so. Starbucks it is?" he asked, getting up from my side. "Yes please. I'd like a Mocha latte," I said. "Mmkay. I'll be back soon, the others are asleep, so don't expect much company," Patrick said, leaning over to my side. He kissed me on the forehead and walked out the door.
I grinned to myself and turned on the TV. Vh1's Top 20 was on. Finally, some good TV. "That was Lily Allen with 'Smile' at number four. Next we have Fall Out Boy, 'This Ain't a Scene It's An Arm's Race' at number three," said the host guy. "I am an arm's dealer, fitting you with weapons in the form of worth, eh, don't really care…" sang a nerdy looking Patrick over the television. I giggled as they poked fun at themselves. The door opened and Brendon stood in the arch of the door. I already hated the look on his face that said "There's always another fool like me, take me back." "Hi," he said as he walked over to my side and sat down in the chair that once occupied Patrick. "Hello," I said coldly. "Look. I'm sorry about Audrey. I hadn't had physical female emotional contact in three months. I took my first opportunity," Brendon explained. "So I'm an opportunity?" I said, glancing up at the television, which was showing the end of the video where Pete jumps into the crowd. Brendon grabbed my hand and I looked at him. "It's not like that. I really like you, I do, even more than Audrey. Babe, will you please accept my apology?" Brendon pleaded. My mind said yes yet my heart said no. If I said no I would be turning down Brendon Urie. It was then that the image of Patrick and his tired, blue eyes entered my mind. "No, Brendon, no," I said, removing my hand from his grasp. "Oh, oh, okay, I totally understand, really I do," Brendon said in a crestfallen voice. "Sorry," I said as he left the room. The countdown of music videos was on Gym Class Heroes "Cupid's Chokehold". "Take a look at my girlfriend, 'cause she's the only one I got…" Travis sang over the television. The door opened and it was Patrick with the coffee. "Hey!" I said cheerily at him. "Alexis," Patrick said slowly, swallowing he continued, "Marissa was found in the bathroom this morning, dead. The doctors say she overdosed on sleeping pills. Baby, I'm so sorry."
